This four-day, intensive course is perfect for anyone keen to take up floristry as a career – immerse yourself in hands-on learning from our talented and highly experienced designers. Our florists – who throughout the year work on fabulous weddings, create breathtaking funeral pieces and make the most beautiful gift bouquets – will also be on hand with invaluable advice and guidance on establishing yourself in the flower businesses. You will be provided with a toolbox, apron and sundries needed to complete the course, which are yours to keep.
Day 1 – First steps. Learn about purchasing and delivery, the all-important conditioning and sundries and tools. Practical skills will cover gift wrapping a traditional presentation bouquet and creating a hand-tied using the classic stem spiralling technique.
Day 2 – Flower it up. On the second day we’ll cover the crucial role social media, branding and marketing play in today’s floristry world. Also, learn what works for weekly displays in hotels and restaurants. Hands on work will involve creating a modern goldfish bowl display and a more traditional basket arrangement. We’ll then turn our attention to the art of wiring – using delicate wires to create an exquisite buttonhole and corsage. These skills will give students the building blocks for the most breathtaking of wedding floristry.
Day 3 – Sympathy. Funeral flowers are some of the most important we ever buy and this session will give you a detailed floristry overview – from initial consultations with mourning families, cards and liaising with funeral directors to creating stunning designer and traditional floral tributes. Students will create classic, bespoke Tudor Rose wreath and a cushion-style piece with pleated ribbon edging.
Day 4 – Wedding floristry. This final-day of our intensive course will cover the glories of wedding flowers. From the initial consultation with couples, drawing up quotes, purchasing and planning, to transportation and set-up, the all important photos for social media, as well as the less glamorous take down. Hands on, students will make a stunning handtied bridal bouquet and a spectacular tall table centrepiece. We’ll celebrate the results of your labour in traditional wedding style – with a glass of bubbly!
